Do you tackle the Francios Peron NP by yourself or do you hop on a 4x4 tour for the day? We chose to join Darren ‘Capes’ Capewell on Wula Guda Nyinda Eco Adventures, and are so glad we made this decision. Capes is very passionate about the area, having spent most of his life here. He knows the region and history very well and passes this on to his guests in an entertaining way! He creates a friendly and fun atmosphere with a small group of 5 and invites questions at any stage of the day.

One of the highlights of this tour was learning about the Aboriginal culture. What looks like harsh landscape is actually abundant with medicinal plants, food, and water! Having Capes share generations of knowledge with us was invaluable. Not only does Capes explain what the plant was used for, he also shares sustainability practices that were strictly followed by the indigenous population to ensure the food supply was continuous throughout the seasons.

Capes also taught us about tracking animals and identified their footprints in the sand. He explained how to read the footprints to know which way the animal is heading, how fresh the footprints are and in some instances, what speed the animal was travelling! If it wasn’t for Capes’ knowledge and his sharp eye, we would have never seen a Thorny Devil! Capes spotted the little guy when travelling along the road. He had stopped the car and was crouched down beside the animal before we knew what was happening! The dreamtime story about how the creature came to be Thorny and why he doesn’t drink water is explained and is a delight to hear!
With Capes’ knowledge of the National Park, we drove along the beach at Bottle Bay and stopped at a reef for snorkelling which was incredible. The red cliffs meeting the white sand and crystal clear water is absolutely beautiful. If I wasn't with Capes on this tour, I would have missed out on this spot, and that would have been disappointing.

We had a cooked lunch by the beach of fish and sausages accompanied by delicious salads. You are definitely well fed on this tour and all dietary needs are catered to. The fish needs to be mentioned twice – wrapped in saltbush we had collected along the way added a flavour out of this world! Thank you Capes for introducing us to this combination! They even provided a gluten free cake.

After a busy day exploring the National Park, you are thankful you have a driver to take us home. With the gentle rocking of the car there were a few naps had by the exhausted travellers. The day ends with a dip in the natural artesian hot tub at the homestead which is very relaxing.

RvTrips would like to recommend this tour as a 'must do' when in Shark Bay! A huge thank you to Capes, our amazing tour guide! Your knowledge of the area and your culture is brilliant and we feel very privileged that you shared this with us. Wula Guda Nyinda 4x4 Eco Adventure was a highlight of our time in Shark Bay.

Thanks for recommending this tour, we absolutely loved it! Capes was friendly and very knowledgeable of the area and aboriginal culture. I learnt so much from the day. I definitely think it was money well spent and would recommend this to both Australians and Overseas visitors. The lunch was incredible! Ending the day with the hot tub is great and very relaxing. This was a highlight of my time in the area.
