During our stay in Ballarat, Victoria we took the opportunity to visit the Museum of Australian Democracy at Euraka - M.A.D.E. Access to the carparking area is along Stawell St South which is located next to the pool. (look for M.A.D.E. signs) As you walk down to the entrance and reception of the museum you pass a great children's playground which is built to resemble a stockade.
M.A.D.E is an Australian museum that takes you through the story of democracy in this country - told by ordinary men and women, who fought for our democratic freedom. The museum is located on the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade.
There are visiting exhibitions at the museum as well as permanent displays including the Eureka Flag on loan from the art Gallery of Ballarat. There various interactive touch screens and a small entry fee is charged to help with running this interesting place. M.A.D.E. is open daily form 10 am to 5 pm.
We arrived at lunch time and decided to eat at the Saltbush Kitchen before exploring the rest of the building. Beautiful meal using native Australian spices and local produce - highly recommended.
