The Mareeba Heritage Museum & Visitor Information Centre in Centenary Park is a great place to spend a few hours. This centre is open from 9 am – 5 pm, seven days a week and we were given plenty of information on places to see and their opening times. The area around Mareeba is considered to be the centre of an important tropical fruit and coffee growing industry within Queensland. These crops include mango, paw paw, coffee, macadamia nut, sugar cane, pineapples, cashews, bananas etc. The shop at the Visitor Information Centre is full of locally made products as well as souvenirs.
The Mareeba Heritage Museum is free of charge (donations are appreciated) and the area of this site is over an acre - lots of buildings housing various displays showing the history of Far North Queensland. A map is available guiding you around the Museum's main building as well as the outbuildings around he Park.
