The Visitor Information Centre at Julia Creek in outback Queensland is call 'At The Creek' - an award winning attraction in this small town (located on the Flinders Highway). Pick up your tourist information but make sure you have time to look around - see the endangered Julia Creek Dunnart, short films on the area, find out about the water being pumped from the Artesian Baisn and look inside the four historic buildings that were relocated to this site. They feature local art, touch button screens, theatrette showing films on the area, and a room know as 'Reflections at the Creek'.
The paths outside leads to special displays and themed areas which are interesting displaying the colours of the region. At The Creek is open from October to March on weekdays only, and from April to September it is also open on Saturdays and Sundays. Even when the visitors centre is not manned you are able to wander through and access information from outdoor audio stations - a great feature.
This is an amazing Visitor Information Centre and I would highly recommend that you head there as soon as you arrive in town. We called in on arrival to find out about the feeding time for the Julia Creek Dunnart the following morning - these are really cute creatures and I did not want to miss seeing one and finding our more about what is being done to save them from extinction.
