The Gundagai Visitor Information and Travel Centre is located on the main street (Sheridan Street) as you come into town and is surrounded by lovely gardens and parkland. On display in the Centre is Rusconi`s Marble Masterpiece - 20,948 pieces of carved New South Wales marble which took 28 years to complete - fascinating.
Beside the Visitor Information Centre, within Carberry Park, are the Dad, Dave, Mum and Mabel copper statues sculpted by Aurel Ragus. Apparently the theme to this show was 'Road to Gundagai', and these figures have eventually found their way to Gundagai for display.
This Country town has a number of interesting old buildings but make sure you look at the old timber bridges that were constructed to span the Murrumbidgee flood plains - great examples of early engineering solutions. Hard to imagine how they were constructed without the equipment we have today - they are recognised and listed by the National Trust. Of course you can obtain information from the Visitor Centre about the many other historic features of this interesting country town.
The Visitor Information Centre is open from 9.00 am - 4.30 pm Monday to Sunday. Closed 12.30pm - 1.00pm on weekends for lunch. Open all Public Holidays. Closed Christmas Day
