Turn off Yardie Creek Road onto Mildura Wreck Road north of Exmouth and you will find the remains of the cattleship SS Mildura (approximately 20km from town). This ship was carrying Kimberley cattle south when it became stuck on the reef during a cyclone in 1907. Amazingly no lives were lost. The hull sat on the reef until WW11 when allied planes used it for bombing practice. The wreck is still visible from the shore particularly at low tide.
While we were viewing this wreck we saw two whales breaching at sea - a wonderful sight in the distance. Out visit to Exmouth was close to turtle breeding season and we notices some of the beautiful creatures swimming close to shore.
