During our visit to Exmouth the coast of West Australia we stayed at the Lighthouse Caravan Park - about 17 kilometres from town on the tip of North West Cape. This caravan parks is across the road from Lighthouse Bay and is nestled below Vlamingh Head Lighthouse. The lookout at the base of Vlamingh Head Lighthouse has great ocean views of the Ningaloo coast and is popular at sunset..
I had booked our accommodation ahead because our daughter was joining us at Exmouth and I wanted a large site for caravan and tent. First impression was not great but our site was very large and flat so we pulled in. We were told by fellow travellers not to hook water up to the van as it bore water and can be very salty which could harm the hot water system. Drinking water (which goes through a desalination process) is available at taps near the amenities block, and you can fill your tank up at the Exmouth Visitor Information Centre. Showers and laundry water comes direct form the bore and is salty.
Lighthouse Caravan Park is close to surf beaches, turtle view areas, boat launching facilities on the west coast and Cape Range National Park - all within easy driving distance.
There is accommodation available at the park to suit all budgets:
A fuel outlet is located at Lighthouse Caravan park which is one of the cheapest outlets in town - convenient to fill up with diesel before hooking up the van. Other facilities include:
Our stay was very comfortable and we even managed to run into friends we had met earlier in the trip down the West Australian coast. NOTE: the trees grown in the park drip salt on still days so cover the windscreen of your car (some morning we could not see through the layer of salt).
