Milawa is known as a gourmet region in Victoria with a range of wonderful local produce. First stop Milawa Mustard – I have enjoyed this mustard before and was keen to stock up for home. Milawa Mustard is easy to find on the corner of Snow Road and Factory Road in the middle of town. Housed in a quaint old cottage with lovely gardens.
Millawa Bakery Café. Lovely place for lunch. We had a pie each with a beautiful roast pumpkin, walnut and feta salad. Lovely service and this bakery has a range of sourdough bread incluidng sourdough hot cross buns which are made using local ingredients. Seating inside and out. Highly recommended.
In the same complex as the Bakery is a chemist and Olive Shop. The Olive shop has a large range of regional produce including (of course) olives, olive oil, dressings and dukkah and some really interesting gifts.
Brown Brothers Epicurean Centre at Milawa. This is a must see with beautiful gardens, great wine tasting centre and wonderful restaurant. Huge range of wines to taste and plenty of staff on hand to make sure you are well catered. The Patricia’s Table restaurant serve meals using local produce and match wines to the meals.
Note: John Brown has developed a caravan parking area across the road from the winery which allows RVers who are self-sufficient to stay overnight. This is a great facility with a large flat area to park the van or motor home.
On another day we enjoyed lunch at the Milawa Cheese Factory which has a restaurant, baker, wine outlet, gift shop and art gallery. Huge covered deck out the back and plenty of parking.
Millawa also has a caravan park, pub and antique shop - hard to visit everything in one go.
