Whyalla is the third most populous city in the Australian state of South Australia after Adelaide and Mount Gambier. It is a seaport located on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula. The town is known as the "Steel City" due to its integrated steelworks and ship-building heritage. The port of Whyalla has been exporting iron ore since 1903.© Wikipedia

We called into Whyalla on our trip through South Australia in order to join a tour of the Naval ship "Whyalla" which is located beside the Visitor Information Centre. During this visit we discovered that a Freestyle Kite Boarding Competition was taking place at the Whyalla foreshore.
The city foreshore is a beautiful spot with lovely gardens, picnic tables and plenty of parking. The wind was howling - good news for the kite boarders- and there was plenty of action taking place on the sand flats. Whyalla is one of the larger towns in South Australia which seems to be quite busy with lots to see and do in the area.
