Upon visiting the Visitor Information Centre in Goolwa one of the ladies suggested we head north to look at Strathalbyn a busy country town with a number of old stone buildings. Strathalbyn is only about 35 kilomotres north of Goolway so we decided to take a look after seeing the sights of Goolwa and the mouth of the Murray.
This is a really lovely town full of antique shops, wine tasting outlets (Longhorne Creek is not far away), fresh local produce and a large range of services. We stopped by Woolworths to stock up on some groceries and it was a surprisingly large supermarket for a small town.
The Soldier Memorial Gardens is an absolutely beautiful park in the middle of town with lovely gardens, walking tracks, picnic tables, public toilets, a rotunda and barbeque facilities.
Strathalbyn has a caravan park which is located within the showground with plenty of shade and fairly new amenities – close to tennis courts and a range of sporting facilities. This is a lovely town and well worth the visit.
