Murray Bridge is a large town on the Murray (of course it has a bridge across the river) and is quite a commercial centre. We called into the Visitor Information Centre which is off the main drag but a large centre with plenty of information about the area. They have a large display of local products for sale and the staff were very friendly and helpful - at one stage we had all three staff members helping with our inquiries.
The Murray Bridge Visitor Information Centre is open from 9.00 am - 5.00 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am to 4 pm weekends and public holidays (closed Christmas Day).
Headed down to Sturt Reserve on the river for lunch. Several old train carriages sit beside an old paddle steamer wharf and there are a number of sporting facilities – large tennis complex, boating and fishing. Further along the reserve is a large picnic area with tables and plenty of shade, a public toilet and large children’s playground. Several houseboats were moored along the river bank. There are three caravan parks in town as well as large range of accommodation in motels, hotels, holiday houses and B&B's - a popular holiday destination.
