The Barwon Highway from Goondiwindi towards St George intersects the Carnarvon Highway near a small place called Thallon which consists of a pub and a few houses. This pub is the iconic Nindigully Pub which is famous for its hamburgers, and one burger called the ‘road train’ is huge - they say it can feed you and 10 of your mates.
There is a free camping area in front of the pub on the Moonie River which was a little wet during our visit after heavy rain. This iconic pub, about 45 kilometres south of St George, was established in 1864 and is apparently the longest continually licensed pub in Queensland. This was the setting for the movie Paperback Hero.
The sign on the highway says FREE BEER Yesterday - bother we missed the occasion (Ha). Lovely gardens surround the Nindigully Pub and it is definitely worth a visit as you travel along the Carnarvon Highway in Queensland.
