The 1770 Camping Ground is found on Captain Cook Drive and is a very popular spot for people travelling up the coast of Queensland. We have stayed here with a group of friends for a weekend of fishing - 1770 is renowned for its Reef fishing. The campground is located in a secluded bay with areas to safely moor your boat.
The camping ground mainly caters for tents and camper vans but do have sites for caravans with power, water and sullage. Along the beachfront you will have power but no sullage - evening campfires are allowed on these sites. We enjoyed sitting here and watching the beautiful sunsets over the water while enjoying a pre-dinner drink with fellow campers.
Each morning during the busy season, people were lined up outside the gate waiting for a site to become available. I would suggest you book ahead so as not to be disappointed. The showers are very busy but we never ran out of hot water - there are a couple of amenities blocks. The reception area sells ice, gas and basic supplies. Plenty of activity on the water during the day and some relaxing walking along the beach for a quick fish before the sun goes down. 1770 Camping Ground has plenty of shade and is a great spot for a relaxing, laid back holiday - highly recommended by the RvTrips team.
