Seventeen Seventy, also written as 1770, is a village in Queensland, Australia, built on the site of the second landing by James Cook and the crew of HM Bark Endeavour in May 1770 (Cook's first landing in what is now the state of Queensland). Originally known as Round Hill – after the creek it sits on – the name was changed in 1970 to commemorate the bicentennial of Cook's visit. The community of Seventeen Seventy hold the re-enactment of this historic landing in May each year as part of the 1770 Festival held in May.© Wikipedia

Seventeen Seventy (1770) and Agnes Waters are about six hours drive north of Brisbane on the Queensland coastline. 1770 is a beautiful seaside village surrounded on three sides by the Coral Sea and Bustard Bay. Captain James Cook landed here in May 1770 while travelling up the coast on the Endeavour (thus the name). This is the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and a great holiday spot - fishing, warm water and lovely weather. Lady Musgrave Island is not far off the coast and there are a number of tours available.
We usually stay at the 1770 Campground - along Captain Cook Drive but there are plenty of other accommodation options around 1770 and Agnes Waters. The campground is located right on the water and is extremely popular - you can watch the amazing sunsets over Bustard Bay or light a campfire on the edge of the beach.
There are a number of beautiful walking tracks around this area and you can pick up a map from the Visitor Information Centre. While you are at the Visitor Information Centre look around for the magnificent carved wooden container beside the front door - made from the trunk of a tree. I wanted to take it home but unfortunately it would not fit into the car. Some of the walking tracks include a trip up to the 1770 headland for great views from the lookout.
The Agnes Waters Tavern was a surprise find when we were last visiting 1770. This is quite large with beautiful covered decks, large restaurant, snooker tables, take-away bottle shop and plenty of parking. They have a courtesy bus available on Friday and Saturday evening - perfect for an evening out.
