Flat Creek Station is beef (Brahman cross) cattle property of about 30,000 acres run by Peter and Adam. Adam had been our tour guide at Cobbold Gorge and told us about his property and the tours they ran for visitors. We rang Peter and organised to see the Station - picked up a map with directions from the TerrEstrial Visitor Information Centre in Georgetown and set off early the next morning.
We had been warned that the road was rough but it was much worse than expected, (the normal access had been cut off temperarily) and it took 1½ hours to travel 25 kilometres to the homestead. Peter was waiting with a welcome smile when we arrived and was ready to drive us around the property and explain what they do with the cattle and when they muster.
The property is full of bird life and we stopped numerous times to take photos - native birds can be seen including the rare Gouldian finch (a Flat Creek Bird list is available at the homestead). After the tour we went back to the homestead for Smoko. Peter had made pumpkin scones and a pot of tea was produced - great country hospitality
Flat Creek Station also has a camping ground and people go fossicking for gold on the property. We were very pleased we had decided to stay an extra night in Georgetown and take the tour of Flat Creek Station.
