Flat Creek Station is about 50 kilometres from Georgetown in Queensland and is a working cattle station. The Flat Creek Camping ground is popular with people who want to go fossicking for gold on the property. You will need to have a current fossickers licence and these are available from the Department of Natural Resources & Mines in Georgetown (07) 4062 1204.
The camping ground is set in natural bushland - all sites are unpowered. There are toilets, showers with hot water and pets are allowed (must be controlled and on a leash at all times.) There is plenty of shade available and lots of room to find a nice private camping spot. The normal access road is open to caravans during the dry season, and opening times of the camping grounds are dependent on the weather - ring ahead to check and make a booking.
Flat Creek Station also has a huge range of native birds - you can go for a bush walk around the beautiful lake and maybe catch sight of the rare Gouldian Finch. This is a great spot if you are a keen photographer. It is only a short drive south from the property to Cobbold Gorge. We met Peter and Adam who run this property and they are welcoming country people.
