Cardwell rest area is on the southern end of town when travelling along the Bruce Highway. This is a lovely coastal town and the park has been well laid out for travellers to enjoy a break from driving.
A walking/cycle track has been constructed along the foreshore with great views over the ocean and nearby islands. I would not consider swimming here as I was told by a local that a 5 metre crocodile has been seen in the area. A man selling coffee from a trailer is set up in the park every day except Tuesday – very good coffee and he bakes fresh muffins every morning (was a baker). Unfortunately they were sold out. There is another food van further along the path selling hot pies and drinks.
Public toilets and plenty of parking even when towing a van. The Park has plenty of shade and some interesting sculptures, murals and mosaic pictures featured around the buildings and pathways.
