And it was our unique combination of heritage, expertise, innovation, and application that led to the design and manufacture of cutting-edge caravans under the Bolwell RV banner.
In 2008 we began designing caravans that were to be superior to those currently available to the touring public.
The Need
As Australia’s population has aged, it has become more mobile. However, the caravan market in general had not kept up with the (increasingly sophisticated) needs of this new breed of road traveller – who have become known as ‘Grey Nomads’.
The Bolwell team saw the need for a caravan that is:
- tough
- smart
- user friendly
- engineered for travel
- designed for living.
So they built two: The Bolwell EDGE and AIR.
In 2010 Bolwell RV was established as a dedicated caravan business, and in 2011 the award-winning Bolwell EDGE received the first of many design and innovation awards.
The Cutting Edge of Caravanning
Can you imagine a caravan that does not rely on rivets or screws to hold it together? A caravan that is strong, waterproof and watertight? We could!
It was a revolutionary concept, born from our experience in composite technology and manufacturing, and that idea became a reality when we introduced the Bolwell EDGE and BolwellAIR caravans to the market.
The body of the EDGE, our tough luxury tourer, is bonded – making it extremely strong and waterproof, unlike any other caravan on the market. Even the pivoting roof is a single water-tight structure.
‘Lightweight’ and ‘aerodynamic’ are not words usually associated with caravans, but they do describe the Bolwell EDGE. It is a stable, safe, and economical tow – thanks to the Bolwell SureFoot independent trailing arm suspension.
The AIR is our compact, expandable camper offering anyone with a small SUV an affordable caravanning experience. The AIR and The EDGE share the same high-tech construction and innovative, lightweight design.

The Company Behind Bolwell RV
The Bolwell Corporation, started by Campbell Bolwell in 1962, is the company behind Bolwell RV.
Campbell wanted to build sports cars – and build sports cars he did – and sold over 800 of them. With the creation of the Bolwell marque, Bolwell secured a place in Australian automotive history.
The company expanded into truck bodies, military vehicles, the use of aerospace technologies and has clients across a wide range of industries.
Bolwell’s Design Director, Vaughan Bolwell, inherited his father’s design and innovation DNA, leading the Bolwell team of designers and engineers. It was a team that was involved in the ultra light cycle design and build that was used by the Australian Commonwealth Games team to win gold and break world cycling records.
It is the same design DNA that led to the aerodynamic caravanning experience that gave Bolwell the EDGE and led to Bolwell RV.
