Karingana lookout is on the Valley of the WInds walk within Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory. The walk to Karingana is fairly difficult and is rated as a Grade 4 walk which should definitely be done before the temperature becomes too hot in outback Australia. It was about 36 degrees the day we did the full circuit Valley of the Winds Walk and recommend you start as early as possible in the day as it will take about 4 hours. This walk will be closed if the temperature is too hot or too windy so check the signs at Karu Lookout before going any further.
Make sure you take plenty of water as it is suggested you drink 1 litre every hour while walking in the heat. We find it had to believe that we saw someone doing this walk in thongs and only carrying a camera - we did see him return to the car park (thankfully) but he must have been sore and tired. There two water stations on the walk and an emergency phone.
The views from Karingana Lookout are quite spectacular with the large rock formations on three side and a beautiful valley spreading out below. It gives you an idea just how large these rocks are when you climb up to the lookout and then see the Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) still towering above you. What a beautiful spot!
