Gilgandra is a country town located at the intersection of the Newell and Oxley Highways in NSW - about 65 kilometres from Dubbo. The Visitor Information Centre provides plenty of parking space for caravans and motorhomes, and we stopped aor a visit on our way to Coonabarabran. The toilets are very clean and the staff were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. NOTE - spend some time at this great Visitor Information Centre and find out about the Coo-ee march from Gilgandra to Sydney in 1915.
A sealed walking path runs along the river and is dotted with windmills that were used extensively in this area to obtain water. Information plaques explains the history of each windmill and their importance to Gilgandra's history. We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the cafe across the road which is also stocked with great locally made products.
There are three or four caravan parks in town and a number of cafes, pubs and restaurants - a lovely place to visit.
