These amazing photos were taken from the Sandalwood Factory on Weaber Plains Road near Kununurra, Western Australia. While we were visiting the factory a fire was being lit along the water canal. Apparently these fires are used to help control the undergrowth and spread of weeds. It was amazing how quickly it travelled and how many birds circle overhead waiting to get the small animals that run out of the burning undergrowth to escape the fire. Of course there was a water truck on hand to prevent the fire from getting out of control.
We were told that some of these birds have been known to pick up the embers and drop them elsewhere to start another fire and therefore another feeding frenzy.
