Exmouth Visitor Information Centre

Our first stop before driving to our accommodation at the Lighthouse Caravan Park, was the Exmouth Visitor Information Centre. This is a great facility with a large car parking area - big enough to turn around when towing a caravan. It is easy to find on the main road into town and open 7 days a week -  9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday and 9.00 am to 1.00 pm weekends (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day, Australia Day, Labor Day and Good Friday).

The people at the counter were friendly and helpful with heaps of local knowledge and tips on places to go. There is so much to see in this area - here are some of the things we did while staying at Exmouth:

• bush walking in Cape Range National Park
• Jarabi Turtle Centre to look at the information on the turtle nesting areas.
• saw turtles from Tantabiddi Boat Ramp  
• Milyering Discovery Centre which has loads of information about the area and the whale sharks
• snorkelling at Turquoise Bay- just beautiful
• stopped at Mangrove Bay bird  
• Mildura Wreck Road the wreck of the cattle steamer SS Mildura  
• Coral Bay - not far away
• swim with the manta rays
• Yardie Creek 
• Vlamingh Head Lighthouse - beautiful at sunset

Of course there are tours available and a variety of accommodation - all can be booked from the Exmouth Visitor Information Centre. This building has public toilet and shower facilities and freshwater for drinking. There are taps alongside the car parking area where you can stop and fill the tanks of your caravan or motor home - this is particularly important as the water at most of the parks is bore water and can be very high in salt.

Snorkel equipment is available for hire and they sell souvenirs, postcards, locally designed jewellery and artworks etc - it took me ages to look at everything.

The Ningaloo Reef is a world heritage listed area and highly recommended.
