Esperance

Esperance is a beautiful spot to visit and we spent a couple of days here during our trip around Australia - not nearly enough time to see all there is to offer in this beautiful part of the country. Our first stop (as usual) was the Visitor Information Centre which is located in a beautiful historical village in the middle of town.

The Esplanade has some great walking tracks along the foreshore, plenty of seating and really lovely picnic spots. It was very windy while we were there but we still managed to enjoy our lunch overlooking the water. This foreshore area of Esperance has recently been re-vamped and we found that there were plenty of things to see and do. 

The staff at the Visitor Information Centre suggested we take two drives in order to explore as much of the area as possible:

• First drive was the Great Ocean Drive (Tourist Loop) towards the Pink Lake along the coast road heading west from Esperance. Magnificent beaches along this drive and there a number of lookouts along the way to stop and take photos. Twilight Beach (one of the stops) was voted Number One beach in Australia in 2006 - just beautiful with granite boulders coming up out of the water - a lovely protected, safe swimming spot just below the headland. There is a wind farm located on this part of the coast and we headed up the hill towards these large structures to take a closer look and listen to the turbines. 
• The second drive headed east to visit Cape Le Grand National Park - highly recommended. The roads are sealed and it is just a short distance from Esperance. Allow yourself plenty of time to explore this National Park as it is quite unique - from the pure white sands of Lucky Bay to the lookout on top of Frenchman Peak. There are a couple of camping areas in the Park if you wish to stay overnight.
