Cossack is a small historical village about 50 kilometres north of Karratha on the coast of West Australia, at the mouth of the Harding River. This was once a port and many of the stone buildings have been fully restored - some house cafe's, museums and art galleries
There are many interactive signs around the restored buildings that tell the history of Cossack - from pearling industry to shipping port and gold rush area.
Not far from Cossack is Settlers Beach which is popular for swimming, diving and snorkelling. Above the beach is a lookout pergola with great views of Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson and along the coast. We headed to the lookout pergola to view the phenomena "staircase to the moon" - but unfortunately the clouds rolled in and spoiled the effect.
