While visiting Karratha along the coast of West Australia we drove out to Burrup Peninsular to take a look at the The North West Shelf Venture Visitor Centre. What a great place to learn about gas and oil resources in this area. There are a number interactive displays and the centre itself looks over the gas installation and processing plant. The gas is piped from offshore wells and processed before shipping in a liquid form.
These facilities constitute Australia’s largest oil and gas resource development and currently account for more than one third of Australia’s oil and gas production. The North West Shelf Project is one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers, supplying oil and gas to Australian and international markets.
Admission to the centre is free, however opening times vary - check before driving out to Burrup Peninsula.
