We had been to the original Beechworth Bakery many years ago and I was looking forward to revisiting this famous place on our recent trip through country Victoria. Beechworth is a lovely old town with a great history - the main street is full of gift shops café’s, restaurants and a museum.
The Beechworth Bakery was very busy as it was just before Christmas and they had a great range of Christmas cakes, puddings, gingerbread houses and hampers. We called in for morning tea and enjoyed delicious Jaffington (orange and almond cake cut into squares and rolled in chocolate and coconut) - this was their version of gluten free lamington and was absolutely delicious though a bit small. We also had a wonderful date scone and cup of coffee which were also yummy.
I smiled at some of the names of goodies products created at this bakery - Caulioccoli Pie – Cauliflower, broccoli and white sauce – great name. Zoomers which a fun shaped meringues for the children.
Tables are provided inside and out for customers and they have a large selection of pies, quiches, wraps and sandwiches. There are a number of Beechworth Bakery outlets around Victoria but I really enjoyed going back to the original housed in a lovely old building.
