Glendambo is a small community on the Stuart Highway in South Australia - about 250 kilometres south of Coober Pedy and 286 kilometres north of Port Augusta. We called in for a look around and a cold drink at the Glendambo Hotel.
The Glendambo pub is made of Tasmanian Cedar and surrounded by lovely big verandahs - very cool and welcoming on a hot afternoon. This is a great building and was built several years ago at a great cost and needs to be seen to be believed. It has two huge bars, a large dining area, and a lovely open fire for use during the Winter with plenty of comfy seating.
There are room for accommodation provided out the back - plenty of space for camping and caravanning on gravel sites. This is very dry country and water is scarce - shade trees are scattered through the park. A beautiful pool area with a lawn is available and looked very inviting. It was very slow as tourist season had finished – we had a soda and spoke to several of the workers who were very friendly and happy to have a chat. One problem they have is bore water and the salinity causing a problem with the evaporative air cooling system - it works well but does not look crash hot.
This is a popular overnight stop during the busy tourist months when people are heading north for the winter.
