Along Capricorn Coast Tourist Drive, just south of Yeppoon you will find the BIG4 Capricorn Palms Holiday Village. The address is Wilden Way, Mulambin and don't be alarmed that it seems to be located in the middle of suburbia. As you drive up the palm fringed driveway you will soon see that this is a wonderful fun park for children - located about 300 metres from the beach.
Even before you reach the lovely reception area you will see a large enclosed children’s play area including jumping pillow etc. On the other side is a water slide pool and a separate pool with spa which are each fully enclosed in their own space.
The Reception area is behind a wonderful terraced garden, up a few steps and equipped with a convenience store that can also sell beer, wine and spirits. Alongside the reception is a large screen for outdoor movies. The viewing area has been created with terraced seating on grass up the side of a hill - music is played through the speakers during the day.
During our visit it was Queensland school holidays and it was lovely to see so many children playing outside and riding around the park in the hire peddle cars or on push bikes. There is a camp kitchen near the pool with barbeque facilities and a range of shaded picnic tables throughout the tropical gardens.
Of course this park has a range of cabins with great facilities - very clean and well equipped. One which stood out was the Lodge which is available for group bookings. Wow we have never seen anything like 'The Lodge' with the capacity to sleep up to 24 with 4 x double bunks in each divided area plus 3 x futon style sofas in the lounge room. There is a disabled bathroom with toilet, sink and shower plus another area with 3 showers (doors on each) and 2 toilets (doors on each). This lodge has a back door to open for airflow and access to a small yard. There is an extra large kitchen with 2 fridges and huge gas stove/oven. A very long table in the dining area with stack-able chairs, and a large screen TV. A ramp leads to the big verandah for those using a wheelchair. What an amazing accommodation option.
This is a large park with a huge overflow area out behind the last row of cabins. The powered caravan sites around the park are separated by gardens containing palm trees for shade. The large amenities block sits in the centre of the park with gardened walkways leading from each direction – this saves people walking through sites. Great idea.
The RvTrips team would not hesitate to stay at the BIG4 Capricorn Palms Holiday Park when next travelling along this part of the Queensland Coast.
