Yaamba is a small community in Queensland about 36 kilometres north of Rockhampton on the Bruce Highway. It was quite busy on the day we drove through the area with the Yaamba Mower Races in full swing. This is obviously very popular with races for all ages - engine sizes are restricted for those too young to compete in the open class. They even run qualify races to make sure everyone has a chance in their category.
Yaamba has a pub, service station and rest area located right beside the Bruce Highway (literally). The rest area is a popular rest stop that also operates as a Driver Reviver centre during holiday periods. It can be quite busy and quite noisy but it is a good place to stop for an overnight stay. The time limit at the rest stop is 24 hours. It has a large sealed surface suitable for caravans and motor homes and facilities in the adjoining park include toilets, picnic tables, BBQ’s, rubbish bins, water tap (not suitable for drinking) and pets are allowed.
