Pentland is a very small town on the Flinders Highway, between Charters Towers and Hughenden in outback Queensland. It was time for a coffee break and we saw a road side stall selling vegetables - so decided to kill two bird with one stone - have coffee and buy some local produce. Two Iconic Australians men were running this stall and they have a picture of shed stapled to a tree - they say this is because there is no roof covering the tables of goodies and when people ask them where the shed is they just point to the tree. All fresh produce was contained in polystyrene boxes with the lids held down by a rock - it is hot in outback Queensland and this was their method of protecting the vegetables. No prices and no indication of what is in each box - you just had to have a look.
These two men make their own sauce and of course I had to buy some - it was called Hot Ass Emu (not too hot), Bloody Hot (which they called medium) or Ass burner (hot). They were really friendly and joked around the whole time - I think they must set up here regularly as a number of locals called by while we were there.
