Glen Helen Gorge is one of the suggested scenic locations in the West MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory. Head west from Alice Springs for about 130 kilometres along Larapinta Drive and then Namatjira Drive until you reach Glen Helen Homestead Lodge.
From the car parking area you can follow the track into the gorge, past the Finke River and waterhole to view The Organ Pipes - you can go for a swim or climb the ridge for a magnificent view across this beautiful rock formation.
The Finke River flowing in front of the Glen Helen Homestead is a refuge for a number of water birds. The Homestead Lodge offers accommodation – camping, permanent tents, motel rooms, with the Namatjira Restaurant and Gallary providing meals. This restaurant overlooks the cliffs and seemed to be very popular - they were almost booked out for the evening. They also have Bar facilities and we enjoyed a cold drink before heading back to Alice Springs and our caravan.
