We have stayed at the Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park in Port Macquarie on several occasions and love the location - on the river and close to town. As the name would suggest this caravan park is located on the Breakwall of the Hastings River - distinguished by rows of painted rocks. The rocks have been decorated by tourists and locals with stories of holidays in the area, poems, hand prints, wedding dates etc.
The Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park is very large with a huge range of cabins, back packer accommodation, powered or un-powered caravan and camping sites surrounded by lovely Norfolk Island Pines providing shade.
Some features of this park are:
The main beach of Port Macquarie is known as Town Beach and this is a short walk from the Sundowner Tourist Park. There are a large range of shops only a few blocks away and plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs - we rarely need to use the car as all we need is within walking distance. The only negative of the park are the severe gutters along most of the roads.
The sites are large and fairly flat with areas that can easily cater for large rigs. The access road to the entrance of this park is only small (and fairly steep) but there is plenty of room to park near reception while you check in.
