Guyra is a small town in the New England Region of NSW only 37 kilometres from Armidale. We stopped at Guyra to look at caravan park - the Guyra Summit Caravan Park which is reportedly the highest caravan park in Australia at about 1300 metres above sea level. This park is open but a little old and is quite seasonal with people coming and staying to pick tomatoes. Apparently Guyra has the biggest glass greenhouses in Australia for their tomato crops. You can look through the greenhouses at certain times - check with the Visitor Information Centre.
We stopped at Apex Park along the main road for morning tea - great amenities, children’s playground and plenty of shade.
One of Guyra's most important land marks is the Mother of Ducks Lagoon which is a large stretch of water held in an old volcanic crater. The lagoon is a high altitude wetland reserve attracting bird watchers from all over Australia and the world.
