The two-bedroom miners cottage are a unique experience, perfect for a family. Popular, spacious and very comfortable with a generous living area that has a sofa and tub chair. Modern conveniences complement the full range of cooking facilities. The bathroom provides a shower, vanity and toilet. The main bedroom has a queen bed and television, and the second bedroom has two bunk beds. All bedding is provided including towels. With two televisions, DVD player, air-conditioning, heating and free in-house movies, the two-bedroom miners cottage provides all the home away from home comforts.
The BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park has a large range of cabins and one that we were able to photograph during our stay was a two bedroom Miner's Cottages - Cabin No. 5. There are several of these cottages (one and two bedroom) scattered around this lovely park that look like miniature miner's huts – some with corrugated iron cladding. I have never seen this style before but the design seems appropriate as we are within walking distance of Sovereign Hill, an outdoor museum relating to the discovery of gold in the Ballarat area.
These cabins are very clean with timber look cupboards, just as you might have seen in a miner’s hut. There are stools at the bench facing the kitchen which is well stocked with casserole dishes, pots, pans, plates and even some coloured dinnerware for the children. One lovely feature I noticed on the kitchen bench are three matching canisters with a supply of tea, sugar and coffee – enough to last the visit. In the cupboard is a tub to help keep recycling separate from the main rubbish – I like this idea as I try to recycle wherever possible.
A round table sits in the living area with new chairs and a big lounge along the opposite wall for all guests to relax and watch TV (mounted on the wall). A lovely bright print hangs on the wall opposite the entry which made the room feel happy and welcoming.
The main bedroom has a spare dining room chair at the bench and is very clean and well presented with rolled towels ready for use with a very nice printed cushion to brighten the space. The room has a queen bed with bedside benches, reading lights, a wardrobe and a flat screen TV.
The second bedroom has 2 x double bunks (L-shape) with matching striped bedspreads – all neatly made with a fresh towel on each. Again, reading lights for that bedtime story.
The bathroom contains a shower with bath base and plenty of natural light making the room feel fresh and clean. A hair dryer is mounted on the wall for convenience.
The two bedroom miner's cottage has a lovely covered deck area with rectangle wooden table and matching bench seats. An outside light switch is conveniently located near the stairs if you arrive after dark. Even the outside light fitting blends in with the theme as it is an old style lamp. A sealed parking bay beside the cabin allows easy access to the deck via full-width stairs.
The information compendium on the dining table has the name of the person who prepared this neat and tidy room for visitors – a nice touch to be able to thank the right person.
